Rainbow
Ballet is a unique, inspiring and magical program
for children aged 2-8 years; revealing each child’s
unique talents in fun and engaging ways. Each educational
class is designed around a term theme; classical ballet and
contemporary dance form the curriculum and each different
lesson is brought to life with ‘all-things-beautiful’
and incorporates:
|
| •
drama • creative play • story-time
• music • free movement
• gross motor development |
the benefits
All children shine as they connect with friends, create dance
and drama through imagination, perform technical feats and
discover fascinating new things with stories, props and dress
ups. Rainbow Ballet celebrates the full range of every child’s
natural abilities.
class outline
Example of Term theme: The Sea Example
of weekly themes: Mermaids, Sea Horses and Pirates
Each class commences with a familiar warm up, where non-locomotor
skills are developed and brain integration activities commence,
then the dramatic element of the class leads the children
through an adventure – based on the weekly and term
theme where the key learning activities such as ballet technique,
music, creative dance, locomotor and gross motor development
are explored providing a variety of challenges and pure joy
for the children, finally a familiar cool down closes the
class which starts with dress ups and free dancing, often
a creative dance story and lastly a relaxation activity.
The classes are divided into age groups and each year is a
progression on the year before, as the dancer gets older the
ballet syllabus demands more from the students, thus the dancers
are guided technically and challenged creatively whilst ensuring
that the Rainbow Ballet philosophy of fun and creative play
remains.
what to wear
The children are free to wear their own choice of dance wear
providing it isn’t too long (below the knee) or have
many accessories attached to the outfit. Leotard and
skirt, simple fairy dresses or soft tutus are great examples
of what to wear. All children do need ballet shoes bought
from a reputable dance wear store. Jiffies are not the
best or safest footwear and are not recommended.

Boys
and Girls from age 6 have the option to learn the RAD syllabi,
which has been devised with great care to allow children to
progress through their ballet training in orderly, challenging
and inspirational stages. Our teachers facilitate the
learning and discovery of the fine tuned ballet technique
rather than stand and deliver set exercises for the children
to imitate.
For 2008 the Primary ballet class for children aged 6 years
is at 3.45pm on a Thursday afternoon.
