When a child attends my class I hope they…discover skills, develop creatively and are inspired - falling involve with dance & beautiful things whilst having fun & making friends.

The most rewarding thing about working with children is... their creative contributions, energy & free dancing!

My greatest success so far is... the accumulation of lots of little successes - my business, my creativity and my happy children.

Every year, I always...set new years resolutions that are super easy to achieve.

My tertiary/teaching qualifications are… BA (Dance) UWS graduated 1995 & RAD Registered Teacher (Distinction)

Formal teaching experience…16 years

Everything changed when I realised...I was owning a business that modelled every other business that taught dance in a manner that didn't meet the needs of children.

As a child I was...always in a fantasy land

The best advice I ever received was...'Only dead fish go with the flow'

My favourite place in the world is...the west coast of the Isle of Harris (one of the Outer Hebrides of Scotland)

My favourite style of dance is… modern dance (not faux contemporary or euro trash or interpretations of…) because it's boundless.

At the moment, I’m reading...Seth Godin

Something I can’t do, but I wish I could is... sing - I'm completely tone deaf - oh I also want to be able to perform magical spells!

Five minutes ago I was... contemplating the amount of housework that needs to be done whilst checking the news, Twitter and Facebook.

Five minutes from now I will be... replying to the many emails that have landed in my inbox.

Five years from now I want to be... living a few hours from Sydney with chooks, veggie garden & 'free range' children - using technology & the best staff to keep Big Steps Little Feet operating successfully in many metropolitan locations - & licensing Rainbow Ballet to other teachers asking them to let go of the old patterns of teaching dance to young children in exchange for whole hearted, connected, imaginative, creative, genuine, honest, appropriate, relevant, flexible, organised & fun teaching methods.

Nerida

The most rewarding thing about working with children is... witnessing their firsts (first jump, first skip, first solo free dance) and watching their skills and capabilities develop. Hearing raucous en masse laughter is also a delight.
 
My greatest success so far is... making it to the place I am now.

Years of teaching experience…..I first started assisting in ballet classes at the ripe old age of 13, and this is my fourth year with Big Steps Little Feet.
 
Everything changed when I realised... maths does have a purpose.
 
As a child I was... a prima donna
 
The best advice I ever received was... from a dance teacher: "If you don't like something, you probably don't understand it. " (explains my relationship with maths).
 
My favourite place in the world is...Iceland
 
My favourite style of dance is Contemporary because you get to learn the rules, use the rules, break the rules and make your own rules.
 
The person I most admire is... Mr Squiggle-he can draw upside down and I simply cannot draw at all.
 
At the moment, I’m reading...The Australian Physical Environment (it's dry), The Little Prince (enchanting and handbag sized), Anna Karenina (Sunday afternoons in the sunbeam) and Harry Potter (before bed).
 
Something I can’t do, but I wish I could is... drive the miniature car in the circus
 
I recommend that everyone should... go to Iceland
 
Five minutes ago I was... annoyed that a button had come off my new cardigan.
 
Five minutes from now I will be... begrudgingly sewing a button onto said cardigan.
 
Five years from now I want to be... looking back on five fast paced and enormously enjoyable years.

When a child attends my class I hope they...learn to express themselves through dance & gain confidence. Most importantly I hope they have a wonderful time stepping into the magical story we create every week at Big Steps Little Feet.
 
The most rewarding thing about working with children is...seeing the kids smile and laugh throughout my lesson is the most incredible feeling.

Every year, I always...want to do more. Learn more, travel more & achieve more.
 
My tertiary/teaching qualifications are...full-time Certificate in Performing Arts & I'm currently studying acting at NIDA.
 
Years of teaching experience…student teaching – 8 years; teaching my own classes – 6 years.
 
As a child I was...constantly dancing, I'd brush my teeth & dance around the house! I couldn’t get enough!
 
The best advice I ever received was...take time each day to remember how lucky you are.

My favourite style of dance is….changing all the time, depending on my mood. I love ballet because it's the base for all dance – master ballet and you can master anything! Contemporary is wonderful, it's a huge creative release.

At the moment, I’m reading...Tender by Nicki Bloom and Macbeth by William Shakespeare (for NIDA) as well as a novel by Alexander McCall Smith called Tears of the Giraffe.  
 
Something I can’t do, but I wish I could is...speak French fluently.
 
I recommend that everyone should...Dance! & try chilli chocolate, so delicious!
 
Five minutes ago I was...Folding my washing.
 
Five minutes from now I will be... Cooking dinner.
 
Five years from now I want to be... Performing in New York or somewhere overseas.
